Black Wings & Black Night Reviews

I thought I would review both books together since I have already read both. First I will say that Ace did a great job putting the covers together. As someone that buys books more often than not based on the cover alone I love them!

Title: Black Wings (Book 1)

Author: Christina Henry

Series: Black Wings

Madeline Black is no ordinary human. Her job is to escort souls to the afterlife. She is an agent of death with no social life. When not collecting souls Maddy spends her time at home with Beezle her doughnut loving gargoyle. Maddy is mortal but has wings at her disposal and while said wings are out she cannot be seen by others. Enter charming, good looking Gabriel, I couldn’t decide if he was a good guy or a bad guy at first. All I knew was that from Henry’s description he despite being very good looking he might not be trustworthy. Maddy faces relatives she never knew she had and finds out who her real father is and how her mother really died all in the first book. Not only does Maddy have to fight with her boss J.B. while at work she has a whole horde of demons to fight also. The book is fast paced and kept me turning the page wanting to know what happens next. I give it 4 1/2 stars.

There are spoilers from Book 1 below.. Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know some important things you find out in book 1!!

Consider yourself warned!

Title: Black Night (Book 2)

Author: Christina Henry

Series: Black Wings

Maddy, Gabriel, J.B. and Beezle are on a mission. That mission is to keep Maddy alive. She recently found out that her father is one of the Fallen. Yes that Fallen. He is an angel or rather was an angel. And even bigger she is the grand-daughter or Lucifer! Her crazy half-brother is still trying to kill her, but she can’t kill him because that is against Lucifer’s law. So in order to win she must be creative. Having been appointed as the new ambassador to faerie by Lucifer himself Maddy is in for a whole new world of trouble. J.B. and Nathaniel escort her to faerie where she is in for an adventure that she is in no way ready for. * I felt that this one was a little slower than the first but thought it was a good read. It did leave me wanting to know what was going to happen in book 3. I will be starting that one soon and will let you know what I think of it. I give Black Night 4 stars.

Awakened By P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

Book 8 in the House of Night Series

Do not read if you haven’t read the pervious books as there are spoilers.

After reading the first 7 House of Night books I wasn’t sure that I wanted to continue with the series as I felt that it centered around some kind of love triangle with Zoey. However I was surprised to find that this wasn’t the case at all in Awakened. The Nerd Herd is back and needing Zoey to return to the House of Night more than ever, but she still isn’t ready to face the evil and darkness that is Neferet. Neferet is back at the Tulsa HoN and Dragon… well lets just say that Dragon has a hard choice to make. A tragic event at the Tulsa HoN will leave Zoey with no choice but to return to Tulsa and fight for her friends and do the right thing. I was happy with the decision for Zoey to return to Tulsa but the tragic events that take place are heartbreaking. It was refreshing to see the series take a turn from the love triangle and take more of a focus on the fight with Neferet and Kalona.  It was also nice to have some pieces start to come together and have everyone know what is going on with Stevie Rae makes the book progress nicely and leaves me wondering what will happen in the next book.

  1. Marked
  2. Betrayed
  3. Chosen
  4. Untamed
  5. Hunted
  6. Tempted
  7. Burned
  8. Awakened
  9. Destined
  10. Hidden (out October 2012)

Hunt the Moon By Karen Chance

Hunt the Moon

By Karen Chance

It took me a long time to finish this book. I kept getting deterred by the same old Cassie gets locked in the hotel room by the vampires because its dangerous for her to leave. I can’t decide if Mircea is doing it because he really does love her and wants to protect her or if he is just keeping his investment safe. Then there’s Pritkin… I love him. I hated him in book one but he did start to grow on me and is now my favorite character. I love the way he wants to protect Cassie and is always there for her and risking his life to keep her safe but doesn’t try to keep her locked up like Mircea does. That may be why I love him so much. While I couldn’t wait for Hunt the Moon to come out I found that it was a little harder to get into than the first few. The plot seems to be expanding now though and finding out some things about Cassie that are unexpected and take the series to a whole new level or at least gives the potential to change everything. The ending kind of shocked me and all I can say is go read it! If you haven’t heard of the series the order is as follows:

1. Touch the Dark

2. Claimed By Shadow

3. Embrace the Night

4. Curse the Dawn

5. Hunt the Moon

There is also a spinoff series about Mircea’s daughter that takes place in between the Cassie series. These are:

1. Midnight’s Daughter

2. Death’s Mistress

3. Fury’s Kiss

Over all I give Hunt the Moon 4 stars.
